Hammer & Steel Global, LLC, founded in 1989, is a leading supplier of pile driving and drilling equipment for foundation and shoring construction projects in the United States of America.
Hammer & Steel seeks to hire a proactive and detailed-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Hazelwood, MO.
The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Corporate Controller and plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the company by ensuring accurate recording of inventory transactions, reconciling inventory accounts, and managing multi-state sales tax filings and compliance, in addition to other general accounting duties. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, excellent analytical skills, an inquisitive mind, and a positive demeanor.
Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Responsibilities
General Accounting:
· Prepare and post journal entries for general ledger activities.
· Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts monthly.
· Assist in month-end and year-end close processes.
· Support internal and external audits by preparing required schedules and documentation.
· Other duties as assigned.
Inventory Accounting:
· Maintain and reconcile inventory records across systems.
· Monitor inventory transactions (purchases, transfers, adjustments, shrinkage, etc.).
· Perform monthly inventory account reconciliations and analyze variances.
· Work with operations and warehouse teams to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
· Assist in physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
Sales Tax Compliance:
· Calculate, prepare, and file multi-state sales tax returns in a timely manner.
· Monitor sales tax nexus and ensure compliance with current laws.
· Reconcile sales tax liability accounts and maintain proper documentation.
· Work with third-party sales tax software and/or consultants as needed.
Skill Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
· 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a product-based or retail company.
· General understanding of inventory valuation methods (FIFO, weighted average, etc.).
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· High attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
· CPA license or candidacy is a plus.
· Experience with inventory accounting.
· Experience with sales tax automation tools (e.g., Avalara, TaxJar).
· Familiarity with multi-state sales tax regulations and compliance.
· Knowledge of cost accounting principles.
· Experience with Microsoft Business Central.
