ABI Mobilram System, Versatility In Motion |
 |
|
Vibratory densification of soils (driving open-ended casing)
|
Looking to improve your bottom line? The versatile ABI Mobilram system combines speed and accuracy with smaller piling
crew sizes. The result: excellent production rates and significantly improved profitability.
Conventional pile driving methods employ a large variety of crane-based equipment. All are less versatile, more difficult
to mobilize, and more expensive to move in and set up for operation than the ABI Mobilram. A self-contained package, the
Mobilram system typically takes less than an hour to self-erect for operation or to collapse for transport.
Changing attachments is even faster. Think, for example, of a job that requires vibrating a casing and drilling it
out. Frequently this requires two crane-mounted systems. The Mobilram streamlines the operation with one extremely
versatile system that is available with a multitude of attachments, including a vibratory driver/extractor, a pile
presser, both diesel and hydraulic impact hammers, and rotary heads for drilling. With its new docking system, those
attachments can be switched in as little as five minutes. "That's a great time saver to a contractor who has to change
from hammer to drill and back again four or five times a day," explained Hammer & Steel's West Coast branch manager,
Daraius Tata. It also means that the Mobilram system can easily complete more than one function on a project.
Construction methods utilizing the Mobilram can be adapted to any application or job site. The specific method chosen is
generally determined by the soil conditions. These methods may be classified into four basic categories:

Vibratory installation of light-guage sheet piling

The ABI Mobilram system uses highfrequency, variable-moment vibrators, and has the ability to give up to 40,000 lbs. of
crowd on the pile. The combination of hydraulic crowd force, and the vibration-free startup and shutdown of the
variable-moment hammer, results in minimizing vibration and avoids the lowfrequency vibrations that damage surrounding
structures. Therefore, the Mobilram allows contractors to work very close to these structures.
The mast on the Mobilram rotates 180°, making it ideal for work in very tight corners. Because the operator doesn't
have to move the rig in order to work, he has outstanding accessibility. Further, the telescoping ABI mast has a stroke
of up to 82 feet (25 meters) for long, single-pass applications but can still collapse to about half its length for
transport or to pass beneath obstacles.
With the hydraulic crowd and the mast adjustment cylinders, the Mobilram is able to control the straightness of the
pile without a template. That makes the ABI Mobilram the fastest installer of sheets and beams on the market. Contractors
use it for any number of applications, including:
- Driving and extracting steel sheet piling. Sheet pile walls and cofferdams are vibrated with great accuracy and speed without templates.
- Vibratory installation of steel beams for beam and plate, and beam and lagging retention systems.
- Installation of casing up to 48" in diameter for permanent or temporary applications.
- Installation of stone columns by utilizing a casing with a special tip for soil displacement and replacement/compaction.
- Installation of full-displacement vibro piles for grout compaction, as a soil improvement
